China has told state-owned companies to stop using Ernst & Young and several other global accounting firms because of longstanding concerns about data security, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. The guidance, purportedly issued by the finance Ministry. Advises state-owned enterprises not to renew their contracts with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, KPMG and Deloitte & Touche when they expire.
The guidelines were issued after the Chinese government reached an agreement with the US last year to allow US auditors to examine the audit papers of hundreds of Chinese companies listed in New York.
Foreign companies are still allowed to use US auditors. But their parent companies are being instructed to use Chinese or Hong Kong accounting firms. According to a source briefed on the matter.
