City Xuhui District market supervision Administration to the well-known new energy electric vehicle enterprise Xiaopeng issued a penalty decision.
Since 2019, Xiaopeng Auto has signed a “store customer flow detection project service” with an IT manufacturer. After that, Xiaopeng Auto has installed IT equipment with face recognition function in its 7 stores and purchased 8 SAAS accounts to capture and store face data of consumers entering the store. Only in this year, More than 400,000 facial photos were collected from January to June 2021.
The market supervision bureau of Xuhui District believes that this behavior is illegal without the consent of consumers, and does not express or inform consumers of the purpose of collection and use.
At the time of the incident, Xiaopeng Automobile had dismantled relevant IT facilities and equipment.
Through face recognition and other digital means, accurate customer analysis and tracking, although conducive to enterprises to carry out marketing services, but must be within the scope of legal permission, otherwise digital transformation will become a digital “punishment”, engaged in digital transformation readers must pay attention to.
