The first phase of Midea Digital Science and Technology Industrial Park, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, has been set up in Beijiao, Shunde, Guangdong Province, just 10 kilometers away from Midea’s kitchen hot dishwashing factory, which was listed as a “beacon factory” by the World Economic Forum in October last year.
The just-held economic work conference of Provincial Party Committee proposed that we should adhere to the real economy as the foundation and the manufacturing industry as the master, promote the construction of manufacturing strong province to take new steps, firmly grasp the industrial projects, industrial investment, industrial platforms, and accelerate the upgrading and development of the industrial system.
Midea Digital Technology Industrial Park, which is accelerating its construction, will build itself into a national industrial 4.0 intelligent manufacturing demonstration base with a standard higher than “lighthouse factory”, striving to catch up with advanced countries such as South Korea and Singapore in terms of manufacturing robot density. Today, digital transformation is unfolding a vivid story in Guangdong, a large manufacturing province: leading enterprises “elephant dance” take the lead in digital transformation, small and medium-sized enterprises follow the tide of “cloud platform”, and break through the “bottleneck” problem in key core fields. The wave of digital economy is unstoppable, and Guangdong’s “smart” manufacturing is rising rapidly.
Leading enterprises take the lead in opening comprehensive digital transformation
Walking into Midea Kitchen’s hot dishwasher factory in Shunde, a giant screen at the door displays a panoramic view of the digital twin factory, with real-time updates of each dishwasher’s production data at a glance. On the production line of the assembly workshop, the visual automatic identification camera records the movement rhythm of more than 20 processes. Once the time deviates from the set data, the machine will stop automatically and the big data will be fed back to the relevant person in charge immediately.
This factory is the fifth digital factory in the United States to receive the honor of “Lighthouse Factory”.
“The digital transformation of the factory started five years ago, and cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other technologies were applied from the research and development end to the production end.” According to Liu Yulong, general manager of the factory, unit production cost has been reduced by 24 percent, delivery time has been shortened by 41 percent and defect rate has been reduced by 51 percent after the digital transformation. “Improved quality, improved efficiency and reduced cost have been fully reflected, with production capacity doubled and staff reduced by nearly half.” ‘he said.
Li Bo, head of the test center, said that Midea Group is now fully digitalized, and its industrial Internet platform products have been widely used in more than 40 industries, serving more than 210,000 industrial enterprises in total. “In the future, we hope to export our digital experience to more companies and empower all walks of life.”
Currently, the factory is the world’s largest dishwasher production base.
Currently, the factory is the world’s largest dishwasher production base, with an annual output of 6 million units and products sold to 145 countries and regions around the world. The number of 10,000 robots in the factory has reached 700, and intelligent interconnection is realized through the industrial Internet.
Just across the road from the factory, the port of Beijiao is bustling with cargo ships laden with Midea dishwashers on their way to destinations around the world. It is not just Midea. In Guangdong, more and more manufacturing giants are riding the digital wave.
Gong Fusheng, head of Shenzhen Gongjin Electronics Co., LTD. (Gongjin), checks production lines of four domestic and foreign factories thousands of miles away.
“In the past, corporate decision-making leaders needed to travel frequently between multiple factories, wasting a lot of manpower and money.” Mr Gong says joint management of multiple factories can now be easily achieved through a cockpit consisting of large digital visualised screens.
Behind this, it is the equipment interconnection project
Behind this, it is the equipment interconnection project jointly launched by Gojin Shares and GechuangDongzhi, which has realized “global factory integrated management”. In May last year, Gechuang Dongzhi was selected as a national “Cross-industry and cross-field Industrial Internet platform”, becoming the only national dual-platform company originating from semiconductor manufacturing.
He Jun, vice president of TCL Industry and CEO of Gechuang Dongzhi Technology Co., Ltd. introduced that in the past 4 years, Gechuang Dongzhi has enabled TCL to work in many industries internally. The tangible benefits of digital technology application for TCL Huaxing optoelectronics have reached 230 million yuan.
“I understand that the manufacturing industry is in charge, and more emphasis is placed on technological innovation and the development of the digital economy. It should be driven by the demand-side manufacturing industry, which will become the main body of innovation. Gechuang Dongzhi will take semiconductor manufacturing as a breakthrough focus and use the industrial Internet to promote the high-quality development of manufacturing.” He Jun believes that the transformation and upgrading of intelligent manufacturing in the semiconductor industry has entered the deep water zone, and it is more necessary to use the innovative technological advantages of 5G, the Internet of things, AI and big data to help semiconductor factories improve production efficiency and reduce production costs.
In recent years, Guangdong has made great efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of leading manufacturing enterprises, and supported Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan and Dongguan in building themselves into demonstration cities for the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry. Solid progress has been made in building a strong manufacturing province. Up to now, Guangdong has promoted the digital transformation of 22,500 industrial enterprises above designated size, and the industrial Internet industry’s added value ranks first in China.
Installing “digital brains” on traditional industries
Shantou Yongjiafa Industrial Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “Yongjiafa”) production workshop, hundreds of weft knitting machines work at the same time. Each loom is connected to the digital system of “Flying Shuttle Spinning” of Vision Technology. And the production data is synchronized to the company computer in real time.
Established in 1995, Yongjiafa is located in Gurao Town, which is known as “the famous town of knitted underwear in China”. In 2019, the company began to explore traditional weaving technology to realize digital intelligent production. “It is urgent for the factory to carry out digital upgrading!” Zhang Jiawei, the general manager, is acutely aware that the management approach of relying on human experience has fallen behind.
Subsequently, Yongjiafa carried out in-depth cooperation with Zhijing Technology.
Subsequently, Yongjiafa carried out in-depth cooperation with Zhijing Technology, which is specialized in providing digital upgrading of the whole industrial chain for the textile and apparel industry. Taking advantage of the digital transformation, Yongjiafa has rapidly developed into an intelligent production service enterprise integrating professional weaving, dyeing and finishing as well as sales of finished products in stores.
“The digital system covers the upper, middle and lower reaches of the textile industry. And can be quickly replicated for small and medium-sized enterprises in the whole industry chain.” Li Yaping, co-founder and senior vice president of Zhijing Technology, provides intelligent solutions for production and management of textile enterprises in the upstream. Connect a number of small and medium-sized garment manufacturers in the middle reaches to solve the pain point of “difficulty in finding cloth” industry. In the downstream focused manufacturing to achieve flexible production.
With the help of digital transformation, the production efficiency of Yongjiafa.
With the help of digital transformation, the production efficiency of Yongjiafa, a veteran textile enterprise. It has increased by 30% in just 3 years. From hand weaving to mechanical textile and digital knitting machine. The ancient textile industry is full of vitality in the digital wave.
There is no exception. In Zhangcha Town, Chancheng District, Foshan City, known as the “Famous textile Town in China”, textile enterprises have formed industrial clusters of R&D, design, production, trade, exhibition and marketing and logistics through digital transformation and upgrading.
Chen Kai, general manager of Foshan Xinwei Knitting Co., LTD., is an old textile man. Since 1995, he has been engaged in textile industry and founded his own factory in 2015.
If the traditional textile industry wants to develop well
“If the traditional textile industry wants to develop well, it cannot do without the word ‘cost reduction and efficiency improvement’, and the key lies in digitalization.” With years of experience in the textile industry, Chen Kai became one of the early entrepreneurs to test the waters of digital transformation. Once the factory was up and running, he used a digital platform to access the equipment.
In Chen’s view, digital transformation can make employees more active. “In the past, doing a single order was a single order, and the staff was not motivated. Now, employees can see how much work they do and how much they get paid on their phones, so they’re much more motivated!”
More and more upstream and downstream enterprises through the digital system
In ZhangCha, more and more upstream and downstream enterprises through the digital system “twisted into a strand of rope”. Chen Kai took out his mobile phone. The system showed the progress of raw materials and logistics. “For large downstream fabric enterprises, digitalization makes the whole process more clear: the production schedule of which factory is what, how much material is needed, enterprises can make decisions through the digital platform system.”
At present, Guangdong takes the lead in carrying out the digital transformation of industrial clusters in China. In the central factory of Jieyang Zhongde Metal Eco-City Park, the injection molding production machine runs fully. In a small household appliance enterprise in Beijiao Town, Foshan, the equipment has realized real-time updates based on Internet information. In Dongguan Songshan Lake Electronic Information Industrial Park, intelligent production lines are equipped with Huawei Industrial Internet platform… At present, more than 650,000 small and medium-sized enterprises in Guangdong have been promoted to “access the cloud and platform”.
“It is suggested that more efforts should be made to promote the digital transformation of industries with traditional advantages. At present, Guangdong modern light industry textile and other trillion-level industrial clusters belong to the traditional advantageous industries with huge size and urgent need of transformation and upgrading. This is not only an important means to achieve the steady development of Guangdong’s industrial economy, but also the only way to build a modern industrial system.” Ministry of Industry and Information Technology electronic five deputy director, Guangdong Province manufacturing strong province construction expert advisory committee specially invited expert Wang Yong said.
Solve the “bottleneck” problem in the field of digital economy
Into the South China Sea Sanshan Wenhan Lake next to the Jihua laboratory. The atmosphere of scientific and technological innovation in full swing. In the research department of high-power semiconductor equipment, researchers and developers test the stability of new equipment over and over again.
The provincial economic work conference proposed to strengthen the dominant position of enterprise innovation. And strengthen the demand-oriented scientific and technological research. Guangdong semiconductor and integrated circuit industry is facing the difficulties. More and more difficulties, speed up the breakthrough of the digital economy field “bottleneck” key core technology.
“As early as 2018, we developed a 2.45GHz microwave power supply. A key component of semiconductor equipment. But the key materials could not be manufactured domestically.” Ji Hua Laboratory (Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology Guangdong Laboratory) semiconductor technology research Department related person in charge of Hu Lang talking about the initial business feeling helpless.
Hu Lang’s experience reflects the development predicament of semiconductor and integrated circuit industry in Guangdong.
The Pearl River Delta has the largest chip consumption. And application market in China, but in the whole industry chain, the manufacturing weakness is obvious. Under the global chip supply crisis, Guangdong manufacturing supply chain has been affected. In the middle stream, the semiconductor industry “chain master” enterprises are striving for the lead in the storm.
In August 2022, the Phase III project of Guangzhou Yuexin Semiconductor Technology Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “Yuexin Semiconductor”), with a total investment of 16.25 billion yuan, was launched. And a new 12-inch IC analog feature process production line with a capacity of 40,000 pieces per month was built, aiming at industrial car gauge chips. In November, Yuexin completed a new round of B financing. All of which was used for the construction of the Phase III project.
At the end of October 2022, China Resources Microelectronics Shenzhen 12-inch integrated circuit production line project also officially started. With a total investment of 22 billion yuan in the first phase of the project. The annual output of 12-inch power chips will be 480,000 pieces. And the products will be used in automotive electronics, new energy and other fields.
“We will give full play to the leading role of the chain to help Guangdong build a globally competitive IC industry innovation highland.” Chen Wei, president and CEO of Yuexin Semiconductor. Said that since its establishment in Guangzhou. The company has attracted 150 upstream and downstream enterprises from materials equipment, chip design, packaging and testing, and terminal applications to settle in Huangpu Development Zone.
Across the province, broader collaborative innovation is accelerating.
Across the province, broader collaborative innovation is accelerating. Since 2021, Guangdong has promoted the establishment of three industrial groups with an investment scale of over 10 billion yuan. Namely Bay Area semiconductor, Broad Rongzhi and smart sensor, and set up six investment funds with a total investment scale of over 100 billion yuan to support Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai in building integrated circuit industry development clusters.
At present, in some fields of semiconductor and integrated circuit. China and developed countries are roughly at the same starting line. Guangdong, a manufacturing province, has ushered in an era of “lane changing and overtaking”. “The third generation of semiconductor technology, represented by silicon carbide and gallium nitride. It is expected to become a new track for Guangdong to lead power generation.” Ji Hua Laboratory high power semiconductor equipment research Department Director Wu Sanzhong thinks.
Tu Gaokun, secretary of the Party Group and director of the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, said that the next step is to speed up the strengthening of the industry chain in the fields of integrated circuit, industrial software, high-end equipment, new materials and other areas, establish and improve the collaborative innovation system of manufacturing industry with enterprises as the main body, to provide an inexhaustible “first power” for the development of Guangdong’s manufacturing industry.
