Journalists have found it impossible to download and install Windows 10 and 11 directly from Microsoft’s official website, according to news reports published by Russian and domestic media.
According to media reports, when you download Windows 11, the following message appears on the page: “Error. There is a problem with your request. Please visit the Microsoft Support contact page for assistance.” When you download Windows 10, a message “404 – File or directory not found” will be displayed. However, if you use a VPN, you can still download normally. In late March, Brad Smith, Microsoft’s president and chief legal officer, announced that it would suspend the sale of all new products and services in Russia. Breaking news! Brad Smith, Microsoft’s president and chief legal officer, also said the company would not temporarily suspend operations with Russian users. “Denying these organizations the opportunity to upgrade software and use services could put the health and safety of civilians, including children and the elderly, at risk,” said Brad Smith, president of Microsoft.
Although Russian users can not download from Microsoft official website Win11 and Win10 system actual impact is small, there are a lot of system diversion address on the network. Piracy itself is a big part of the Russian market, and since the Russian authorities lifted the ban on pirated websites, piracy has become rampant. This in itself will have little impact on Russian users, but its potential impact is profound. But whether it is a deliberate decision to cancel downloads or even withdraw from Russia, or simply to shut down download links as a test, it is a bad start: the rights of legitimate users and existing commercial users are not guaranteed.
When business is excessively dependent on politics, it can even affect commercial use and user commitment. For individual users and business users in China, there is a great uncertainty in the future: when the trade war between China and the United States intensifies, will Microsoft also stop cooperation in the future? Stop support? Stop downloading? Stop updating? Or even disable the user’s access to the software?
After this bad start, will other software IT companies with market monopolies and companies in the congested field do the same?
